Although the UV market has good prospects, the threshold is very high. Ultraviolet LED not only has a high technical threshold, but also has special raw materials and special packaging technology, which are different from white light lighting and require special scheme verification.

The threshold of LED is very high, mainly reflected in three parts, the first is ultraviolet semiconductor materials, the second is epitaxial growth, and the third is chip preparation and chip packaging.

In addition, UVLED itself still has certain bottlenecks. Because its external quantum efficiency ranges from a few percentage points of UVC to 40-50% of UVA (UV-A band) and near ultraviolet, the development of manufacturing high-efficiency chips may become the key to the growth of the UV LED market.

In other words, the efficiency of UV LEDs will directly affect the penetration rate of UV LEDs. This will promote the growth of the UVLED market in the future for purification and disinfection applications, because UVC cannot achieve sufficient efficiency, and its popularization and application are hindered.

If they want to improve the external quantum efficiency, manufacturers of UVCLED curing lamps must improve various parameters related to efficiency and accelerate the degree of technological development.

To be more detailed, it is to improve the internal quantum efficiency, quantum injection efficiency and light extraction efficiency. In other words, efficiency improvement technologies such as flip-chip structure and optoelectronic structure on LED blue light can be directly applied to UV LEDs. However, the existence of UV LEDs is derived from the In/AlGaN epitaxial layer, so it is necessary to advance research and development from the level of substrate and crystal growth to specifically solve this problem.

Because the UV LED epitaxial layer is much more complicated than ordinary blue light epitaxial growth, traditional MOCVD is not suitable for its growth. Therefore, after understanding its growth mechanism, you need to order equipment from MOCVD companies or independently develop MOCVD equipment. This is also the leading domestic the reason.

In addition to the low light output power, due to low efficiency, UV LEDs have three problems: ultraviolet light radiation accelerates the oxidation of organic materials, thermal stress, wet stress and impurity intrusion, so that there are still further problems in the use of resin packaging.
